International Day of the Celebration of the Solstice in 2022

@nzsouthernman @vaughndavis Better name? NZ is the first country in the world to make an indigenous celebration a public holiday and you’re saying that taking away its Māori name is better. Winter solstice may help with understanding but it is not Marariki and all its knowledge, traditions and practices.

@SmithNo1stName @DavisAndrew88 It’s the celebration of the Winter Solstice in the Southern-Hemisphere. Yule when the days (light) start to get longer. The Northern-Hemisphere celebrates this in December and have come to know of it as “Christmas”. https://t.co/cItfIcRN62

@hapuajean @vaughndavis Temporally (is that even a word?) it's the 1st weekend after the 1st full moon after the March equinox. Of course, it's 6 months out of whack here in NZ for a spring celebration (like xmas, a winter solstice celebration...).
